Lover's Lane

This week's couple is one very dear to my heart. Whenever I think of romance and horror, Dracula and Mina always come to mind. Bram Stoker's Dracula is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's tragic and passionate. It shows both sides of Dracula, the monster and the man. And the lengths he goes to for his love.

Dracula and Mina
from Bram Stoker's Dracula

In the beginning of the film Vlad Dracula comes home from war to find his beloved wife, Elizabeth is dead. She received false report of his death and took her own life. Dracula is enraged after being told her soul will be forever damned. He curses God and drinks of the blood, declaring he will rise with all the powers of darkness to avenge her. Four centuries later he meets a woman named Mina who he believes to be his wife reincarnated. Although Mina is engaged to be married she quickly falls for the vampire. The two's love affair ultimately leads to Dracula's death. It's very touching to see all that they go through for each other, and I'd like to think Dracula finally found the peace he was looking for.

"The luckiest man who walks on this earth is the one who finds true love." -Dracula
